5 out of 5 stars Seat Lift Chair   May 18, 2009

This chair arrived and needed minor assembly (essentially screwing on the legs). It is attractive and contemporary looking, and at first glance no one would know it is a lift chair. It has greatly improved the quality of life for my mother-in-law who is elderly and has arthritis which makes it difficult to get in and out of chairs.

5 out of 5 stars Great lift chair   December 21, 2009

I bought this chair for my great Aunt who managed to stubbornly hide from everyone how much trouble she was having getting in and out of her chair. It was very easy to assemble it comes mostly assembled and only takes a few minutes to put the legs on and to snap the arms into place. It's solid and sturdy. The cord isn't very long so unless it's right next to an outlet you will need an extension cord. We got the "Sand" color and it fit perfectly with her other furniture. The style is a classic one that has a strong appeal for most seniors.

It's simple and easy to operate. There are two small handles near the end of each arm, either of which can be used to raise or lower the chair (great for my Aunt who is weak on one side). It doesn't lift to a full standing position but it's pretty close. My Aunt is a small woman and the seat height is fine for her. It comes with 1.5" extensions for each leg for taller people. You can also get a color matching Ottoman (which we didn't opt for). My Aunt loves it and it's made her life much easier. Before I bought I read a lot of reviews on other sites about this chair and the main complaint was that it was too hard. I've sat in it and while I wouldn't describe it as soft it's certainly not "hard". I found it comfortable and my Aunt does too. If push came to shove you could easily attach a cushion to it.

Overall I have nothing but good things to say about this chair. If I have any problems I'll update this review, but so far (about a week into it) so good.

(Note: The Risedale Chair web site has lots of info along with videos showing the chair in action. Amazon tends to delete links but I'll try anyway: [...]

5 out of 5 stars Risedale Chair is Excellent   January 30, 2010

I bought this chair and the matching ottoman because a relative had gone through multiple surgeries on a knee, was facing a long period of physical rehab, and had to have something at home that would allow her to sit and get up without terrible stress on her knee. We'd tried rigging up patchwork solutions with existing furniture, but nothing worked. I read reviews of this chair, talked to a couple of nurse acquaintances I knew who had seen these chairs in use, and was encouraged enough to purchase this. My relative loves this chair and says it has made all the difference in the world to her (long) recovery. She assesses the quality of construction and fabric as excellent and attractive. The chair is big enough to be comfortable, but small enough to fit neatly in the smallish living room. I bought a set of chair leg risers, too, in case the chair itself wasn't quite high enough, but we didn't need the risers; those have now been put to better use elsewhere. Most important is the seat lifting mechanism, which she describes as smooth, and easy. I noticed that her morale began to lift, also. This chair makes it possible for her to get up easily to go into the bathroom, the kitchen, the bedroom. She feels more confident, both physically and emotionally. She feels the matching ottoman - which has a convenient storage capacity - is also excellent. I don't live in the same town, and so do not see it in use every day. But she continues to rave about it and says she would not be nearly as ambulatory without this chair, which she has been using for several months. I have recommended it to others and would certainly buy one for myself or other family member if we needed same.
